The Upright Jenny Sheet - America's Modern Philatelic Rarity!
In 2013, the United States Postal Service issued a sheetlet of six $2 stamps showing an image of the famous Inverted Jenny stamp of 1918, to commemorate the discovery and celebrate stamp collecting month, October.
As part of a promotion, the USPS printed 100 of these sheets un-inverted, and distributed the sheets randomly at post offices throughout the country. So far, a total of 20 of these sheets have been discovered and reported. Auction prices for the sheet are hitting $50,000! The USPS also elected to mail a sheet to a random customer who had been purchasing the sheetlets through Stamp Fulfillment Services. The lucky recipient lived in Greater Atlanta and has made it available to the Southeastern Stamp Expo. The owner has chosen to remain anonymous, but we are very grateful to him for letting us display America’s Modern Philatelic Rarity! We believe this is the first time that this rare sheet has been publicly exhibited. Come to the Southeastern Stamp Expo at the end of January and see this rare item. Be sure to read this great article in Linn's Stamp News about this sheet! |
