Graebner Chapter #17, American First Day Cover Society is the go-to club for first day cover collectors in Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area. The chapter was founded on October 13, 1973 when sixteen AFDCS members met in the office of Robert Graebner in Washington, DC to consider establishing an AFDCS chapter in the Washington, DC area. At a second meeting in November 1983, officers were elected and chapter was organized as the "National Capital Area Chapter of the AFDCS". When Robert Graebner died in August 1974, the members voted to change the name of the chapter to the "Robert C. Graebner Chapter". Auctions of first day covers and related material are held at the January, April, July and October meetings. Other meetings feature member presentations and a raffle. The December meeting is the annual holiday party, with plenty to eat and a "Super Raffle" of several hundred lots. |
