Southeastern Stamp Expo Announces 2024 Show Theme
The 2024 Southeastern Stamp Expo is proud to celebrate former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday.
The centennial anniversary will be showcased in exhibits, presentations, and special philatelic displays.
Southeast Federation of Stamp Clubs Announces Rowland Hill Award Winner
The Board of Directors of the Southeast Federation of Stamp Clubs is pleased to announce its winner of the 2024 Rowland Hill Award. This recognition is a lifetime achievement award bestowed annually to a philatelist who has made an outstanding contribution to philately in the Southeastern United States.
For 2024, the Board proudly honors Steve L. Swain, of Roswell, Georgia.
A life-long stamp collector, Steve refined his collecting interests in his adult years to focus on U.S. postal history. These interests evolved into Steve’s pursuits as an author and as an editor of postal history journals.
Steve’s 400 articles and columns have appeared in, among others publications, the Postal History Journal, Georgia Back Roads, La Posta, The American Philatelist, Linn’s Stamp News, Airpost Journal, First Days, U.S. Stamp News, Mekeel’s & Stamps, The Philatelic Communicator, The Circuit- International Stamp Collectors, Stamp Insider, Georgia Post Roads, Florida Postal History Journal, Pennsylvania Postal Historian, North Carolina Postal Historian, and several other regional and state philatelic publications.
Columns in philatelic publications written by Steve include “Stamp In-Sites” for Stamp Insider, the journal of the Northeast Philatelic Societies, and “In-Sites” for First Days, the journal of the American First Day Cover Society. Both columns provided reviews of philatelic websites and online philatelic offerings.
Steve has published six postal history books, three of which focus on the Georgia barrier islands:
Steve’s contributions to Georgia and southeast philately include his role as President of the Georgia Postal History Society, Vice President o the Cobb County Stamp Club, and Vice President of the Southeast Federation of Stamp Clubs. Among other responsibilities, he is on the planning committee for the Federation’s annual Southeastern Stamp Expo, chairperson for the Expo’s paid advertisements, and the editor and publisher of the Expo’s show program.
As a frequent guest speaker, Steve has given philatelic-based presentations to groups such as the Rotary Club of St. Simons Island, Georgia, state postal history societies, Georgia-based local stamp clubs, and at various philatelic conferences.
