Southeastern Stamp Expo 2019
Southeastern Stamp Expo Announces
2019 Show Theme
The Planning Committee of the 2019 Southeastern Stamp Expo is pleased to announce its show theme for the 2019 show. In 2019, we will celebrate two great anniversaries: the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jackie Robinson.
The Apollo program to put a man on the moon was completed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, a branch of the US Government. On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module from the Apollo 11 mission landed on the moon, carrying Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. Armstrong would become the first human to step foot on the moon.
Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia. After his service in World War II in the United States Army, Robinson played professional baseball with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues. He was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers, and signed to a contract. On April 15, 1947 , he became the first African American to play in a Major League Baseball game. He later became the first African American inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. His uniform number, 42, is retired throughout Major League Baseball.
We anticipate that these two themes will be celebrated with a commemorative show cover, exhibits, presentations, and a write-up in our show program.
Southeastern Stamp Expo Reveals 2019 Raffle Prize
The Planning Committee of the Southeastern Stamp Expo has acquired an outstanding philatelic collectible to be used as a raffle prize at our January 2019 Expo.
In 2019, a lucky winner will go home with a United States Scott #1 on its original cover. This magnificent specimen was made available to the show through a kind donation of one of the Expo's 2019 dealers.
The cover features the first US stamp issued, the five cent Franklin stamp, of 1847. The cover is a folded letter mailed from Albany to Troy, New York, with a postmark of September 11, 1850. The stamp itself is a handsome copy, featuring strong margins at top and right, and just edging into the frameline at bottom left.
This cover will embellish even the finest United States stamp collection, and will likely provide years of pleasure to the show attendee who wins it.
Like previous years, your paid admission to the Expo will entitle you to one free raffle ticket. Further raffle tickets are available for just two dollars each, and shrewd collectors will purchase a couple more tickets to double and triple their chances of winning.
Southeastern Stamp Expo Announces Court of Honor Exhibit
The Planning Committee of the Southeastern Stamp Expo is pleased to announce that an outstanding Astrophilately exhibit will be making an appearance at the Southeastern Stamp Expo 2019.
We are delighted that exhibitor David S. Ball has accepted our invitation to show his exhibit "Americans in Space: Projects Mercury, Gemini and Apollo," in January 2019. This exhibit will be designated a Court of Honor exhibit, which is a special category of exhibit attributed to invited exhibits that have achieved an outstanding record of achievement during competitive exhibiting. Just recently, this exhibit won Gold at StampShow 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.
The exhibit is a thematic exhibit which explores the United States space program from 1959 to 1975. With 2019 being the 50th anniversary of the moon landing by Apollo 11, this exhibit will support our show theme of the moon landing and will be a treat for show attendees.
Mr. Ball is the author of the book American Astrophilately, The First 50 Years (cover shown at right), and is a leading authority on Astrophilately. He is currently the Vice President of the American Airmail Society.

The ceremony will feature speakers from the USPS, and senior representatives of the Gwinnett County Police Department, and Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.
