Southeastern Stamp Expo 2018
Southeastern Stamp Expo Announces 2018 Show Theme
The Planning Committee of the 2018 Southeastern Stamp Expo is pleased to announce its show theme for the 2018 show. In 2018, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of United States Air Mail Service provided by the United States Post Office Department. We anticipate several exhibits of air mail material will be on display at the show.
Air Mail Service provided by the US Post Office began on May 15, 1918. The first Air Mail stamp issued was the 24 cent "Jenny" stamp, issued on May 13, 1918.
The Jenny Invert is Coming to the Southeastern Stamp Expo
The Planning Committee of the Southeastern Stamp Expo is pleased to announce that the "Inverted Jenny" exhibit of the American Philatelic Society will be coming to the Southeastern Stamp Expo 2018. Housed within a one frame exhibit, the Jenny Invert (Scott Catlog # C3a) is the focal point of this exhibit that tells the story of the Jenny Invert.
The American Philatelic Society will graciously make this exhibit available for the 2018 Expo to support our theme of the 100th anniversary of US airmail service.
Southeastern Stamp Expo 2018 Raffle Item Announced
Our Raffle Item for our 2018 show will be a United States White Plains Sheet, Scott number 630. The sheet was issued in 1926 commemorates the Battle of White Plains on October 28, 1777. The sheet of 25 was issued in addition to the regular sheets of 100 (cut from large 400 count sheets) and was actually printed at the International Philatelic Exhibition in New York on a flat plate press. It has since become one of the iconic issues of United States stamps, and is much sought after by US collectors.
Our sheet is mint and hinged lightly on the top selvedge only. All 25 stamps are in Never Hinged condition, and the sheet appears to have no separation among the perforations. It is indeed a splendid example of this issue. We are grateful to dealer Hugh Clark for donating this item to the Southeastern Stamp Expo.
All show attendees paying our $5 entry fee will automatically receive a ticket in the drawing to win this sheet. Additional tickets are available at one dollar each. We anticipate having more raffle items to give away, but this sheet is likely to be the premier item, and will be drawn first.
